#7 for 7/30/10

This is the new logo for the header at the top.  It's not much for today, but I thought I needed one so this is it.  Might color it.  What do you think?

#6 for 7/29/10

Brown ink on cardboard again.  I like ink, but I need to think more about my mark making.  There might be a better quality image up tomorrow, the sun is almost down, so image quality isn't high.  Find out what tomorrow holds.

#5 for 7/28/10

This piece was done using Illustrator, using live trace and live paint from an ink line drawing.  I still do not have the hang of using the program, or anything that Melanie tried to show me today.  There's always tomorrow.

Note:  I spelled Mel's name wrong in the previous post, sorry Melanie.

#4 for 7/27/10

Today's image is brown ink (with graphite underneath) on cardboard.  I'm starting to think I like the brown on brown.  You will see more of it in the future.  I hope you're enjoying yourself so far.

#3 for 7/26/10

Today is a big one.  Twenty blind contour drawings.  Done on various found supports, all with ink pen, small.  Here are the top five above.

Here are the rest of them.

This was the weirdest thing I drew on.

This is the image Mel improved.  It might be the best one.  More tomorrow.

#2 for 7/25/10

I'm not as happy with this one today.  Materials are: Brown ink, graphite pencil, and brown colored pencils on cardboard.  Spent maybe and hour or more on it, should have made more time to work on it properly, went to a show instead.  You will see more efective use of all these above materials in the (near) future.

I did this on Saturday, I swear.

First self-portrait, done in graphite and charcoal on paper.  About two hours.  Done right up to the point before I had to be at a wedding today.  This is only the beginning, lets see what happens from here.

The Project:

For a year, I plan to create 365 self-portraits (that's one a day, no breaks) to see how I can stretch myself within the confines of a day.  More importantly this should stretch me as a creative thinker, to find ways to complete the portraits in the free time I have each day, as well as finding new and interesting ways of representing myself.  This is a study of myself, my own changes in a year (both physical and creatively) as well as discovering more about myself.  It is also a test to my dedication to a project that ropes me in for longer than I previously thought I would participate in one artistic endeavor.  Hopefully these exercises bring out interesting thought processes and ideas, and if I'm lucky maybe some interesting work.  I invite all who come here to look through this gallery of sorts (more of a portfolio) and to leave comments, critiques, and whatever else you feel like telling me as this project goes on.  This will be an ever changing blog, as I still need to figure out what layout and typefaces, etc. that I want.  Thank you for joining me, I hope you enjoy.
